Hawaii Island police are asking for help locating witnesses to a head-on crash between two vehicles Sunday on Highway 19 near the Akaka Falls Road junction in Honomu.

Hawaii Island police are asking for help locating witnesses to a head-on crash between two vehicles Sunday on Highway 19 near the Akaka Falls Road junction in Honomu.

The crash, reported at 9:53 a.m., involved a Pontiac Vibe traveling southbound and a Toyota Camry traveling northbound, according to the Hawaii County Police Department.

The driver of the Pontiac, a 20-year-old Honomu woman, was taken to Hilo Medical Center with serious injuries, as were the driver of the Toyota, a 67-year-old Hilo woman, and her two passengers, a 69-year-old Hilo man and a 75-year-old Hilo woman, according to police.

Police have initiated negligent injury investigations in connection with this crash.
